Metroid II The Return of Samus: Tips & Tricks
Secret worlds
To enter secret worlds, you must first move along any wall or floor (preferably a vertical wall, falling down as a ball). Now while moving, continuously press the select button on your Game Boy as fast as you possibly can (I mean, make your arm shake like a sugar rush). Now as you're continuously pressing the select button as rapidly as you possibly can while moving along, you should notice shifts in the walls, and even the occasional accidental hole. If you can enter the hole, then you're in! But, be forewarned that most places in the game that you try this will make you end up stuck in a wall, where you'll then have to reset the game.
The "Select Trick" (rapid pressing of the select button) works best if you are falling straight down as a ball. This way you don't have to hold down on any direction on your D-pad. While falling as a ball, you can enable the spider ball to stop yourself before you fall to far and lose a hole in the wall.
The "Select Trick" works best on the original Game Boy model. On Game Boy Pockets and Game Boy Colors, the "Select Trick" is much harder to perform.

-Samus has quite some new tricks compared to Metroid I- |
| Bomb Jump: |
Use bombs to blast your way up. Turn into a ball and place 3 bombs quickly after the first explodes it will blast you up place another set of bombs in the air. When you fall down the second and the third will blast you back up. Repeat this to come to places you couldn't reach before. |
| Mid air jump: |
When you fall off of a ledge and you didn't jump then you can jump in mid air. At every height you are, as long you haven't jumped yet. Simply press the jump button. |
| Counter Jump: |
Another one of Samus' tricks. When you got hit by an enemy or spikes. you can use a counter jump. Again by simply press the jump button. |
| Wall hug (Spider Ball required): |
When you're in ball form and you're falling down quickly press down to turn into a Spider Ball. Now move towards the wall. As soon Samus hit's the wall she will hang onto the wall. This trick can save you a lot of jumping and climbing work when you fall down. |
| Bridging (Ice Beam required): |
Use the Ice Beam to freeze enemy's. Then you can climb onto them, to use them as a bridge ( the enemy's are frozen for just a short while so be quick). |
| Space Jumping (Space jump required): |
Simply repeat pressing jump when you're somersaulting. |
| Jump while kneeling: |
Simply tab the jump button while kneeling (you can also jump left or right). |
| Change your weight (Spider Ball required): |
There are some creatures on SR388 which have a platform on their selves. As soon Samus stands on them they will move down because they can't hold your weight. Try to turn into a Spider Ball and then they can carry Samus | |
